Ever Ancient, Ever New: Gregorian Chant and the Organ Music of Maurice Duruflé
All event times are in Eastern Time.
Join Dr. Samuel Backman for a one-hour presentation on Gregorian Chant and the Organ Music of Maurice Duruflé.
Duruflé’s modestly scaled but meticulously crafted oeuvre of solo organ works fuses the ancient modal language of Gregorian chant with his own contemporary aesthetic. We will discuss how Durufle’s training in a pseudo-monastic choir school in Rouen would later impact his activity as a virtuoso organist and as a renowned if reluctant composer.
If you have any questions on this topic which you would like addressed during the presentation, please send them to gm@musicasacra.com.
